Paying by Mobile Money without getting burned

Le Cointar never receives your money. When you place an order, the platform gives you the seller's Mobile Money number and records the transaction so you can leave a review afterwards — but the transfer itself goes straight from your account to theirs, as if you were paying an acquaintance.

That is what makes the service free and commission-less. It is also what makes your vigilance essential: nobody can reverse a Mobile Money transfer once it has left.

• Meet the seller in a public place.
• Examine the item, test it, take your time.
• Only once the item is in your hands and works, make the transfer.
• Wait for your operator's confirmation SMS before leaving.
• Mark the order as complete on Le Cointar and leave a review: that is what builds the seller's reputation and helps the next buyer.

• Check the number digit by digit. A transfer sent to the wrong number is gone, and the operator will not recover it for you.
• Check the name the operator displays before confirming: it should match the seller. A completely different name deserves an explanation before you confirm anything.
• Never share your Mobile Money PIN. No seller, no agent, no Le Cointar employee needs that code. Nobody will ever legitimately ask you for it.
• Be wary of unexpected fees announced at the last moment. The agreed amount is the agreed amount.
• Keep the confirmation SMS. It is your only proof the transfer happened.

• Never accept a screenshot as proof of payment. Wait for the SMS from your own operator, on your own phone.
• Hand over the item only after seeing that SMS, not after a promise.
• Register a Mobile Money number that genuinely belongs to you: it is the one shared with your buyers.
• If a buyer asks you to pay anything up front — delivery fees, a tax, a commission — it is a scam. No legitimate buyer asks a seller for money.
